Riverside Reserves – A guided walk in Little River - Saturday 11 May 2019
Join a traditional Wadawurrung Welcome to Country & Smoking Ceremony, then a walk through our riverside reserves with Cultural Educators to learn about the Little River's ancient heritage, with additional comments from Little River Community Landcare and the Little River Historical Society.
You will be introduced to Wadawurrung and settler history of the Little River as you take this guided walk through our township river reserves.
After a Welcome to Country & Smoke Cleansing Ceremony in the John Rees Reserve, Old Melbourne Road, you will walk with Wadawurrung Cultural Educators across the Rothwell Bridge, through the Rothwell Reserve & visit the McLeans Road weir, Bulls & Newland Reserves.
Morning tea will be served in the Mechanics Institute Hall where you can view the district heritage and environmental display organised by the Little River Historical Society, Community Landcare & Mechanics Institute Library.
The walk will continue over the railway line, visiting the Sports Reserve & finally the Bulban/MacNaughton Reserve adjacent to the Grant Bridge.
The Riverside Reserves Walk is the opening event of the Little River Heritage Weekend & you will have the opportunity to join in other activities, mostly free, to be held over the two days as part of the National Trust, Australian Heritage Festival.

Experience a torchlight walk in Victoria's largest predator free ecosystem. Perhaps see some of Australia's most threatened animals ... including the Eastern Barred Bandicoot, Red Bellied Pademelon & Eastern Quoll ... in their largely remnant native grassland habitat near the You Yangs.
The Mount Rothwell Conservation and Research Centre is a privately owned property that undertakes research in restoring habitat and completing ecosystems to ensure that threatened species populations can be protected from extinctions. It is regarded by its owners as an investment in nature.
Little River Community Landcare invite you to join us on a guided night walk at the amazing Mount Rothwell Centre in Little River.

Little River Mechanics Institute Hall will be open from 10.30am to 3pm on Saturday and Sunday
- with a display of local information provided by the Little River Historical Society, Community Landcare Group & Mechanics Institute Library.
Bring your own picnic to the electric barbecue & picnic area in the Possie Newland Reserve.
Hot drinks & cold water will be available in the Hall Supper Room throughout the weekend.
