Since the first meeting on 29 June 2016 a lot of work has been going on in the background to promote the area as You Yangs Region.
- On 16 May 2017 an Information Session was held with Tourism Greater Geelong & Bellarine on regional tourism strategy and many local businesses became members.
- On 3 November 2017 the local group met with representatives from Parks Victoria, Tourism Greater Geelong & Bellarine and others to review the progress and the tourism promotional plans for the region.
There is a lot on offer in this region and we are keen to promote it -
New sign at Sixways in Patullos Road, Lara.
This is the new sign as it was going up on the Lara Library wall as part of the pilot program with Tourism Greater Geelong and the Bellarine.
It will be tested in Lara at three locations including Six-Ways and You Yangs as well, with the aim for this to be implemented around the region so that visitors are encouraged to 'stay' in the region.
It is proposed that once the signage is completed and Tourism Greater Geelong & the Bellarine’s strategy for the region is released, a public meeting will be arranged. This will follow on our commitment at a meeting last June where we considered tourism options and called for community involvement in identifying new opportunities.
New Events Board display in the You Yangs Regional Park.
The Avalon Airport was 'Koala Airport' for 9 days early in May 2017 to promote Wild Koala Day in the region - and to emphasise the nature tourism benefits of this region.
Local businesses got together to hold a special competition to win a FREE short-stay in our region. It was open to those who could fly from Hobart, Sydney, Gold Coast and Adelaide. Thanks to local businesses for your great support.
On Wednesday 29 June 2016 more than 120 people attended this public meeting in the Lara Community Centre to discuss tourism for the Lara, Little River, Anakie and Avalon areas.
Thank you to our presenters - great to have you ALL involved and passionate about this region.
And thank you to all those who attended and took an active part in these special discussions.
We also held a Facebook photo competition and it was a great success too. Congratulations to the winners and thanks to all who entered.
Thanks to all those who provided some suggestions for the region - more are welcome!
There is more to come so please be involved.
